Enjoy waking up on board over turquoise waters to start the day in the best possible way: today we talk about some of the coves where you can anchor in Ibiza. Do you want to know them?

To anchor means to immobilize the boat by means of an anchor stuck to the bottom. It sounds easy, and it is if you are in the right anchorage and have the right equipment.

It is important to know how the different types of anchors work and to know how much chain you have, as well as to choose the right place to anchor (what seabed there is and what winds can affect us).

We explain some of the most recommended coves with unregulated anchorage to stay, whether you have a sailboat, a fiber boat or a RIB. And above all, keep in mind that it is forbidden to anchor on the poseidonia meadows.

Gració Cove

East of Ibiza, ideal if you are heading to the north of the island. It is an ideal cove for anchoring because it is protected from the wind and with gentle waves. Be careful to anchor in the sand, between five and seven meters, and avoid the poseidonia.

Xarraca Cove

North of Ibiza, beautiful anchorage, with a high protection except if the winds come from the northwest. You can anchor at 4 m in the sand, in the middle of the cove, watching the areas of poseidonia.

Bassa Cove

Near Sant Antoni. It has several restaurants on the sandy beach, so it is a good place to go ashore or dine at night. You can anchor at 8-5 meters in front of the beach. The bottoms are rocks, with sandbanks between them, the beach is white sand. During the day it is very crowded.

Vedella Cove

It is ideal for those seeking a family atmosphere and is perfect for anchoring due to its depth. Anchoring should be done between 4-3 meters deep and there are mooring buoys. Sometimes it may be necessary to anchor with two anchors. Its waters have that turquoise color that relaxes and eliminates stress.

Sa Figuera Borda

West of the island, it has a sandy bottom and rocks. It does not have much protection, but its sandbank with a depth of about 3 meters is ideal for a swim or snack.

Red Tip

We refer to Punta Roja, in front of Es Vedrà. An obligatory stop with spectacular sandy bottom, impressive cliffs and good view of Es Vedrà. Protection from North to South, Southeast. Good anchorage at 10 meters.

Tagomago Island

Excellent resting point if we come from the north of the island, and a good place to spend the night if the weather is good. You can anchor in three anchorages: Olla de Llevant, Olla de Tramuntana and Port de Tagomago.
The most recommended is Port de Tagomago, located southwest of the island, especially when Levante blows, because it has sandy and rocky bottoms where you can drop anchor at a depth of about 6 m, although you will be exposed to SW to W and NW winds. In Olla de Tramontana, you will be exposed to winds from N, NE and E and in Olla de Llevant, to winds from N to E and SE. The small coves on the north side are very deep waters.

Boix Cove

In front of the island of Tagomago and protected by the Cabo Roig, it is a cove of very easy access and very sheltered from the north winds. In Cala Boix you can anchor on sand and no more than 3 m deep.

Mastella Cove

Just south of Cala Boix, it is a small cove with a tiny beach. However, it is allowed to anchor on sand about 4 m deep. It is accessible for boats of more than 15 meters. It also has a small fishermen's dock with a beach bar where you can eat spectacular fish.

In Ibiza there are coves with a high ecological value, with Poseidonia meadows that must be respected. Pay attention to the following coves: La Xanga, Porroig, Talamanca, Benirràs, Cala Bassa, Cala d'Hort, Cala Salada, Cala Vadella, Es Xarco, Portinatx and Ses Salines. If you anchor in these coves, keep in mind where to anchor your boat.
